English High School Athletics

At English High School we believe that athletics can be a critical component of a student’s physical, emotional, and mental development. We offer physical education courses during the school day to allow ample opportunity for movement and conditioning and to meet the Mass Core Graduation requirements. This requirement can also be met through participation in an interscholastic athletic team. We offer the following options for interscholastic teams:

EHS Athletics Eligibility requirements:

Representing our school community on the field or the court is an achievement and honor that also comes with responsibilities to yourself, your teammates, and your coaches.

There is a packet of forms that your parent/guardian and doctor must complete in order for you to play. These will be available for you to pick up at EHS starting on Monday or attached to this email if you have access to a printer.  You CANNOT PRACTICE OR TRYOUT without these forms completed.

In order to play on an EHS team in SY 2022-2023 you must meet the following criteria:

Academics:

Students must maintain a 1.67 Grade Point Average to be eligible to participate in athletics.

Attendance

Student Athletes must meet the 18-21 policy to maintain their eligibility. This means you cannot have more than 18 unexcused absences of 21 tardies to school and be eligible for athletics. This is true before and during the season.

Absences can not be adjusted, but tardies can be “worked off” by staying for after school detention on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, or Fridays in the cafeteria from 2:20-2:50. Each detention will equal 1 tardy.

Health

We expect that our student athletes will prioritize their health both in and out of season by engaging in healthy eating habits, ongoing strength and conditioning, and attending an annual physical.

All student athletes must have a completed health form PRIOR to tryouts or engaging in any team activities. The physical must be valid for the entire season and has to have been completed within the last 13 months.

Free Physicals at Madison Park: Saturday, August 13th 8-12pm.  You MUST PRE-REGISTER
